The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 4 -7, 1985

 

Wednesday, December 4, 1985 Billie put outside Christmas lights up

 

Nice and sunny this morning. Cloudy rest of the day. I worked at the desk, got the bills paid. Billie got the outside lights up. Zack helped him after school. Bill is about the same, he went over to Carmen’s and Kim’s today. I cleaned the stove, oven today.

 

 

 

Thursday, December 5, 1985

 

I done some odd jobs. Milan called. Betty S to the doctor. I watched shows in PM. Bill not too good. Eddie and Kim called today. Cassie, she was so pleased to be with people. Dorothea and Betty out looking for antiques gifts. They went to the store and got the groceries. Billie out most of the day.

 

 

 

Friday, December 6, 1985 Carmen out on a date tonight

 

It was snowing when we got up. It stopped at about noon. It was mostly cloudy rest of the day. I been busy. I done up the work. Washed, swept, dusted, other odd jobs. Milan called, later Milan and Betty. Carmen called and went to town for me. Billie been home most of the day. Bill hasn’t been very good today. I watched most of the shows today.

 

 

 

Saturday, December 7, 1985

 

Partly cloudy. David and Milan called. I done up regular work, made a pie, rolls. Bill over to Carmen’s.
