The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice sunny day after the temps went up. 10 below when we got up. The wind has gone down. I got my work done up early and got ready to go to New Hampshire with Milan and Betty. We went shopping and got home early 10:30. Dorothea called and Carmen and Kim. I worked at my desk in PM. Bill over to Carmen’s.

 

 

 

Friday, January 17, 1986

 

I done up the work, got washing done. Betty came and we picked up Betty Smith then on went to Carmen’s then on to Norway. Did some grocery shopping, I did. Kim went with us and Carmen too. Betty and Carmen did their shopping too. Carmen had a date for tonight, also had to meet a person about her room she has advertised. Betty S did a dite of shopping.

 

 



 

Saturday, January 18, 1986

 

A beautiful 50° temps day. I done up the work. Made rolls, washed floors, vacuum and dusted. Billie and Zack out for a ride. Betty and Walt over to Lewiston. Milan called this morning. It sure was mild and sunny. Bill reading all day. Carmen has a date with Dennis and this evening she is entertaining Laurie and her husband and a friend of Jans.

This has been a messy messy day. Rain, cold and foggy. Walt came up for coffee. Kim came early, had breakfast with us. Dorothea and David called. They are having the day off. Billie been reading. Also Bill been reading all day.
