The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 8 - 11, 1986

Wednesday, January 8, 1986 Billie back to his Dr.

This has been a nice sunny day but very cold and windy. I been busy all day. I washed the kitchen windows, made a chocolate pudding and macaroni and cheese for supper. Milan called this morning. No one else today. Billie had to go to the Dr. again. He said his toe was looking good but he wants him to come back Friday and if it is as good as today he won’t have to go into the hospital. Barry got a lot more done down to Betty’s. Carmen got her wood. Bill went over to show them where to go with it. She got it all down cellar. Called Joy, had a nice talk with her.

Dorothea took Bill to see Dr. Winchenbach at Mercy Hospital. He fixed the throat so he won’t have anymore problems. We hope it will work. I went down to Betty’s today to see her new room. It will be very nice when it is all done.

A quite nice day. They still worked at Betty and Walt’s. Kim called after work, so did Carmen on her way to work. Billie to the Dr., his foot is better the Dr. told him so he don’t have to go to the hospital. Not now. They will keep watch of it.

A nice sunny day, on the mild side. Bill up to David’s, he was two hours late getting home. The trucks all running late. Today I was busy, done regular work, washed floors, vacuum, dusted, baked some good beans. Billie up to David’s. Zack up this morning. Milan called, Carmen called and Kim called. I didn’t get a chance to work at my desk. Bill down to the store.
