The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

March 3 - 6, 1982 Poppa Comes Home

Wednesday, March 3, 1982

Clear and windy, on the cold side. I done up the work. Then Billie and I went to North Conway. I did a dite of shopping, sheets, mop and writing material. Came home, watched TV. In evening Betty and I down to the hospital to see Bill. He isn’t much different. Tonight we are quite concerned about Bill. They gave him an examination and found nothing. He is discouraged too. Jay came for the milk tonight. I saw Sally Weymouth tonight at the hospital. She was in to see her sister Barbara. Sally talked and was just the same as she always was.

Thursday, March 4, 1982 BILL HOME Again

A nice sunny day, most of the day, in PM it began to cloud up and tonight at dark it began to snow. Bill came home again today from the hospital. He is still bad. He is very weak and looks awful. He lost a lot of weight. Quite concerned about his condition. He has been in the hospital NCM of Bridgton for three weeks and his condition is not much better. He came home for two days but bleeding all the time. Got very weak and had to go back. Billie in and out, he and Heidi took their daily walk. Dorothea took Delores and I to town. Walt got Bill. Betty and Walt hauled wood. Bill’s color looked a dite better than when he came home before.
