The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A very nice day. Sunny and quite mild. I dite of wind occasionally. I washed some things this morning. I changed the beds. Cleaned up the house, made three pies, cooked baked beans. Made bread and cooked a chicken supper. Had Dorothea and David for supper, washed the floors. Dave here all morning. Billie down to Fern’s today. Betty and Charlene in and out today.

A beautiful day, on the cooler side. Kim here for breakfast and David called. I done up the regular work. Kim worked on puzzle then she had to go to work. Fern came up in PM and here for supper. She enjoyed it very much. Late in PM Dorothea and Betty called. Then Dorothea and I went down to the hospital. Bill is about the same except more depressed. Walt and Zak called on him this PM.

Cold and windy. I did a washing. Wrote to Esther. I worked on puzzle. Kim came up after school and finished it. We went to the hospital. Bill about the same. Not any change, still very white. Dorothea came and ate supper with us.

Tuesday, March 2, 1982 windy

I cleaned up the house. I did the ironing. It has been quite cold and windy. Billie in and out. He and Heidi took their walk. David called a minute. Down to see Bill, about the same, except he seemed a little bit stronger and not so discouraged. His color was a little better.
