The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Betty a dite better today. Bill up to Dorothea’s and put the back door on. Billie and Dave sawed David’s wood. Walt came home sick from work.

Saturday, October 18, 1980 50 YEARS WEDDED ANNIVERSARY

I got up as early as usual. I got a dite of cooking done also rest of my Saturday chores. Then about 10:45 Betty came and we went to town to see the homecoming parade. Carmen’s class of 81, Kimmy is class of 84. It was very, it was a very nice parade. The floats were also good. I love seeing things the kids do for their school. Came home, had their lunch then we began to get ready for the big evening. Billie, Dorothea, Betty and their families took us out for a supper. It was at the Strictly Main Lies restaurant Street restaurant in South Paris. It was the most delicious food ever. A very nice place. Fern went with us. Came home and a very big surprise, a 50th wedding anniversary cake, gifts etc. Joy’s family and Susan’s was invited but they didn’t go. Joy and her girls got everything ready. It was beautifully decorated and all very nice. We both thought it was very good of our kids to give us such a great 50th anniversary (wedding).

Bill and Billie in and out, Billie and I called at Dorothea and David’s. We are having problems with our septic system. Today Ron Kiesman bought Kim’s pig.
