The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 27 - 30 ,1971

Sunday, June 27, 1971

A nice clear cold day. Got up about 8:30. Esther had gone. Bill gone fishing. I done up regular work when Bill got back. We went to Gray to get the guns. We called at Fern’s. Billie gone with Lawrence. Dorothea and family called. We called at Fern’s. They had supper here. Greg Conant was with Jeff. Jeff got a call from his father. He is going out there during August. Betty and Walt’s company left about 3:30. Dorothea, Dave and I down to see new room.



Monday, June 28, 1971

A nice clear cold day. I washed, ironed, did regular work. Bill worked at Betty’s. Betty took kids for first swimming lesson today.



Tuesday, June 29, 1971 got real hot today.

 
Robert 66 today. Joy and her four girls up to help him celebrate. I went down to Betty’s for a little while. I did my ironing. It got hot and humid today. Kim came up to stay all night. Zenya stayed all night with Carmen.



Wednesday, June 30, 1971

Another very hot and humid day. I took care of Susan’s baby while she went to Lewiston with Es, Cliff and Billie. Betty and Bill did some varnishing, moved the appliances into the utility room.
