The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 26 - 29, 1960



Friday, February 26, 1960

Mama not very good today. I cleaned up the house today. Another bad storm today. Bill had a hard time to get started today. So much snow. Billie up to Chet’s, he is sick. Billie got stuck. I expected Betty home tonight. Bill got his glasses today.



Saturday, February 27, 1960

Very nice day. But on the cool side. A lot of snow. I cooked, done up the housework. Raymond plowed out the driveway. Billie worked up to Chet’s, he is better. Raymond here for supper. Kennard and Lloyd called in p.m. Mama not very good today. Betty came home very late tonight. I had a good supper but she weren’t here to eat it.



Sunday, February 28, 1960

Cold today. Didn’t do much. Mama better. Betty worked up in her bedroom. Kennie and Dot here, Fern, Lloyd, Blanche, Jean here in evening.



Monday, February 29, 1960

Partly cloudy. Cold. I washed. Washed Betty’s sweaters. School began again today. Bobby called. Lloyd here, Aunt Ava here in p.m. Mama much better. Sat up about 1 ½ hours.
