The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 16 - 20, 1960



Saturday, April 16, 1960

Did up regular work. Betty over to Auburn to see Mike. He is better. Mama very sick. I went to town and done some shopping. In evening Betty Smith and I played cards and games will Norma Gay and Betty Crook. Dr. B. came over late tonight.



Sunday, April 17, 1960

A cloudy day. Bill and Billie raked the front lawns. Blanche, Fern and Lloyd called. Milan and family left about noon. Betty bought another lamb of Joe Pikes. A white one.



Monday, April 18, 1960

Rainy today, I washed. Mama very sick. Dr. came today. Billie worked for Chet for a while. This is vacation week. Billie raked back lawn.



Tuesday, April 19, 1960

Mama quite sick. I ironed etc. Dolores called and Aunt Ava here. Dr. B here again today. Betty up to Dawn’s. Dot, Lorraine and Wanda called.



Wednesday, April 20, 1960

Cloudy. Not too warm. I cooked etc. Mama some better today. Blanche here in p.m. Dawn called. Lloyd called here in a.m. Betty up to Dawn’s and Irene’s. Billie worked at Chet’s today. Lloyd on a new shift at the Dielectrics. Dr. Bishopberger called again, won’t have to come again.
