The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 27 - 30, 1985 Norma and Kids Leave

Saturday, July 27, 1985

Clear and cooler. I did up regular work, washed floors and defrosted refrigerator. I didn’t do too much. Norma and Jason were here, Milan came and got some greens and string beans. Milan brought his cultivator up. Billie in bed, don’t feel too good.

A very hot day. We picked string beans and cukes. I did the washing. I got the beans ready for supper. In evening Milan and family called. Also Kim and Eddie.

Tuesday, July 30, 1985 Norma, Regina and Jason

Norma, Regina and Jason left after being here for a visit for three weeks. They had quite a nice time. Cookouts, visiting around, talking and seeing everyone. Norma got to visit her friends of school and college days. We will miss them very much. No knowing when we will ever see them again. I hope not too many years go by. Norma is a very nice kind tenderhearted person, we loved her so much and all of them. We left to go to the airport at about 1:30. They left Portland about 3:30. Dorothea and Iva called, also Carmen today. Betty and Zack. Betty and I to town.
