The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 21 - 24, 1985 Moving into Carmen's New Home

Saturday, September 21, 1985 Moving

 

It dawned hot and clear. They began moving Carmen and Kim over to this new home. Eddie started in moving about 5 AM. He helped John and Fred, Carmen and Betty, Zack wasn’t able. Dorothea, Fern called in PM. I been busy all day. We didn’t go over while they moved. Milan called. Zack not too good. Kim had to work all day. Betty helped to move.

 

 

 

Sunday, September 22, 1985

 

A pretty good day. I done the regular work. They came and got the beef to dress. Billie up to Vermont with Butch. Bill and I over to see the new home. Milan and Betty there too. Kim working and Eddie. Up to camp for a hot dog, got the float and dock in. Betty and Carmen settled all of the house tonight. Steers went.

 

 

 

Monday, September 23, 1985 Pullets

 

Up early, got the work done. They called, the pullets are ready. So we killed and dress the old hens, all day job. Betty and Bill over to CKE junction home. They cleaned the garage. I was home all day. Eddie has a new job at Aubuchon Hardware at Norway. Tonight when Eddie came home he was very sick, sick all night. Got pullets

Tuesday, September 24, 1985 EDDIE TO NCM HOSPITAL

 

A nice day. I got up early. Got my work to going. Got ready to go down to Betty’s, we killed her hens for the freezer. Then came home, got Kimmy’s Angel cake dessert made. We got ready in PM and went there to take it over to Kim. Also took Carmen’s raspberry turnovers to her. She was getting ready to go to work. Early this morning Kim took Eddie to the NCM hospital. He had a high fever, very sick, vomiting and diarrhea. She feels bad.
