The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

At last it is cooler and no humidity after being so hot yesterday. It was a good breeze. I did the wash, made a pie, cleaned up the house. Betty, Bill, Carmen, Kim, Zack and I all went to see the house they are interested in. A pretty place.

Tuesday, August 13, 1985 Eddie came home

A nice day, not too humid. I done up regular work, defrosted refrigerator, ironed. Did the shell beans after supper. I did the blueberries. Carmen called and Kim and Eddie. Carmen had the day off. Billie and Zack after blueberries and riding around. It was a very hot today.

Wednesday, August 14, 1985 Very Hot and Humid

It came in hot last night after two days of cooler weather. I made a pie, worked at the desk. The man came and fixed Bill’s hearing aid. I made a blueberry pie. Betty and Zack here for a little while. Also Dorothea and Iva called. Bill down to the hospital for blood test. Billie didn’t do much today. We pulled all shades and had the fan on.
