The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A nice day. I done up the work, ironed. We picked garden things. Billie worked all day. Dorothea had a bad day, nervous and all upset. I hope she will get better soon.

A cooler day, sunny. Betty and Walt went to Rhode Island. Billie mowed Andrew’s hay. Carmen came up, she took me to town. Dorothea called, she was some better than yesterday. Bill had nosebleed all day, bad at times.

Cool early when we got up but it got hot and muggy. Kim came up. She helped picked beans then she cleaned her car and got their lunchs then went home to get her house cleaned up before Eddie comes tomorrow. I got the beans ready, made a cake, got the things ready to cook for supper. I took a bath and watch some shows. I went to town with Betty.

Friday, July 26, 1985 RAIN, EDWARD BOULTER AND HAPPY KIM

Cloudy and we got rain today, a good lot of it. They had bad winds in Portland. The garden sure had what it needed. Now the drought has broken, it may be we will have a little more rain. I did a wash. Carmen called. Well today’s the day Kim has been counting up to. She met Eddie this morning at the airport. He was so glad to get back. They really love each other. They are a nice couple. I wish the best for them and always.
