The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

May 24 - 26, 1985 Billie in Accident, George Crook Arrives

Friday, May 24, 1985 a very nice day

We been busy as all get out. Kim came up, she and I went shopping. Billie has been busy outside. Betty came up, she helped puts screens on, trimmed hedge etc. I washed, made cookies. Dorothea came and brought Fern for a visit. No one went to see Bill today.

Billie had accident. He went to turn in at Milan’s driveway and a car driven by Lori Smith, he hit her and it damaged her car and his truck too.

Saturday, May 25, 1985 George Crook Came

Nice warm sunny day. Up early to get the work and many things done to get ready for George. Did some cooking, swept, dusted, washed a few windows and the finishing touches. Billie rushing like mad to get rest of his things done also. I baked some beans. Kids up, Carmen working. Kim didn’t have to work today. We got ready at about 6:30 to go to the airport. Betty, Kim and me and Dorothea took Zack and Carmen. The plane was about 40 minutes late. Finally plane arrived. We was glad to see him and he was glad to see us. Bill called in late PM for us to bring down his pajamas so we went to see him. He was so pleased to see George. We was planning to go see him at the hospital.
