The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 27 - 29, 1985

Thursday, June 27, 1985 Bill Home Again

Very windy, cold and cloudy all day. I done up my work and went to town shopping with Dorothea. Grocery shopping. Down town. We came home. I got the lunch, Dorothea and Carmen here. Carmen made sandwiches. Dorothea went to Portland to get Bill. Milan went with her to take a test for a motorcycle license. Carmen went home. Billie and I picked strawberries and Swiss chard greens. Picked one and a half quarts berries, Billie did.

Friday, June 28, 1985 OFFICIAL PAPERS SIGNED, BETTY IS OWNER NOW

A very heavy rainy day, rained very hard all day. We sure needed all this rain we got this past week. I been busy all day. Bill is about the same. Billie didn’t do much because of the bad weather. Tonight we’ve signed papers that Betty is going to pay for our house and own it. She will pay as much as $100 a week to help us get money to live on, pay bills etc. Tom and Charlene was here to witness the signing. Betty and I go to town Monday to have it notarized by Notary Republic. Now we will have a paper drawn up to sign the remainder of our estate to Billie and Dorothea and Betty after we passed beyond. I hope all are and will be satisfied.
