The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 18 - 20, 1985

Thursday, April 18, 1985 fencing, Billie got new glasses, double vision

 

It was nice when we got up, it was sunny and nice. It got cloudy before noon then at suppertime it began to rain which we are very glad as the ground is so dry. I done up the work. Esther and I talked. Milan called. Dorothea called and Esther went to town to shop. I watched TV soaps in PM. Dorothea came in and sat down for a little while and talked. Billie and Zack fencing. Walt home sick today. Carmen and Kim at Betty’s today. Kim worked.  Nikia sick today. I made a apple pie.

 

 

 

Friday, April 19, 1985

 

We did a wash. I got a look at my programs. Bill down town. He and Es down town. Billie up to East Stoneham to Clyde Millett’s. Kim worked at Betty’s.

 

 

 

Saturday, April 20, 1985

 

A nice warm and sunny day. Bill out on the porch all day reading. Es and I did up the work, she went over to Susan’s for most of the day. Betty, Carmen and I out for a ride all over, up to the shelter. Dorothea took Fern out today. Milan called today two or three times. Billie got the steers out. He and Zack got the water tub ready. David called today. Kim worked at Betty’s, got the stenciling done.
