The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A cloudy rainy day. It rained real heavy at times, which we need so much. Dorothea, George and I and Betty Smith to Portland to see Bill and Milan. They was doing very well. We had a late supper. Kim up today, she brought up some pictures of she and Eddie which were so good. Very nice of them both. She is very pleased with them.

 


 

 

 

 

Thursday, June 13, 1985 Last Day of School

 

Cloudy most of the day and some rain showers. Toward night the sun shone through some. I did a wash today. George didn’t walk today. He was home most of the day. Betty, Betty, Dorothea and Carmen called. Betty S and Dorothea on the way to see Bill and Milan. Betty was a dite better. Carmen met a guy at the hospital last night. Wow, he was cute Nanny, she said. She may see him tonight again. Dorothea did my shopping. Zack’s last day of School for the year.

 

 

 

Friday, June 14, 1985 Bill home again, last day of school

 

Bill came home again today. He looks wobbly. He is walking on thin ice. Billie did all his mowing today. Zack helped to do some trimming. Carmen and Betty to Portland to see Milan and Bill. Bill came home with them. Milan had his test today. Carmen has a date in Portland tonight. Hope something comes of it.

 

 

 

Saturday, June 15, 1985

 

Sunny in a.m. It got cloudy in PM. Bill doing quite well. Takes says medication and eats certain foods. Billie worked in the garden. Betty, Walt and Zack up and John McEnerney. George wrote to Beat, his last letter while here. I washed the floors and got the meals. Kim up today. She went down and done the shopping. Had lunch here. Bill went to town with Kim.
