The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A very nice day. Sunny and hot. Dorothea took Bill to Portland. George went to get some money changed over. Bill’s Dr. said he is doing fine and was healing up pretty good. Betty over to camp and finished up. Carmen came here to be with me because I had Fern while Dorothea took Bill to Portland for his checkup. Charlene, her sister and Tom called a minute. Also Kim came up after she got through work. Carmen wrapped the gifts we had for George to take home. We had a good time. Fern liked it, she laid down a lot. Carmen, Kim down to Betty’s for supper. I washed early.

Saturday, June 22, 1985 GEORGE LEFT, a beautiful day, horses in new pasture today

Up early, 5:30. Got the breakfast. Cleaned up the house, washed floors. George getting ready to leave. David came to say goodbye, also Walt. David took Billie or went over to get Billie at Ray Cross’s where he took his truck to get the new exhaust part on. In about another hour Betty took him over to get it, it is all done. Betty and George left at about 11:30 AM for the airport after taking some pictures. I read papers. Bill about the same, not very good. Built a new fence for horses. Walt, Billie and Zack got horses in new pasture today.
