The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Wednesday, May 8, 1985 CARMEN GOT THE JOB AT NCM HOSPITAL

A nice sunny windy day, the wind blowed very hard and made it very cold. I done up my work. Billie and I got ready and went to Norway to Shop and Save to do grocery shopping. We went. We went over through Otis field Gore in to Oxford, the long way there, it was a very nice ride. Got great news today. Carmen got the job at NCM Hospital she applied for and the whole Kaboush are so glad and happy for her. Hope now she gets on her feet soon. Kim better but still a long way to go to get all well again. She is so pale and weak. I hope she too will do well on her job which she well if she gets to going steady. Two very good smart girls. Eddie Boulter is caring for Kim. He is so good to her.

A pretty good day, partly cloudy. Not too cool. I cleaned rest of the desk draws. Cooked a turkey dinner, made two apple pies. Not very good. Dorothea had the day off. She went to town. She picked me up a few things at the store. In evening I called at Milan’s. It is beautiful down there. Later Zack came up to get me to go down to see Betty’s clean house. It looks so very nice and clean and shiny. It looks like $1 million to me. I love it. She will do her breezeway tomorrow. Bill painted.
