The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

July 8 - 11, 1985 Norma and Kids Arrive (Regina was such an exotic name to Nanny!)

Monday, July 8, 1985

A nice sunny morning but it clouded up. Had showers around all day. They didn’t mow the hay at Walt’s or David’s. I did some of the washing and Betty called and wanted to know if I wanted to go to Norway shopping. I did, we saw Randy and a friend of his. I came home, finished the washing, got supper to going. David called this morning.

Tuesday, July 9, 1985 NORMA GAY SMITH KNICK, RAJINA AND JASON CAME TONIGHT, PERM

I got breakfast, done up the work, took a bath and shampooed my hair. Down to Barbara’s, got my hair done. Came home, did a wash. Bill took a shower. Billie up to David’s. They got a lot of haying done that was all ready. Billie, Walt and Zack helped to get the hay in. I had a early meal tonight. Then got ready to go to the airport. Kim came up in PM and then up to go to Portland Airport with Betty and I. We left about 5:45, waited a better than an hour. They arrived at about 8:25 on time. We all was so glad to see them all. They looked good, we went to Betty and Milan’s. We had Italian sandwiches. Talked a while. Carmen came. I got home at about midnight. Bill to the hospital for checkup, he is the same.
