The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 17 -19, 1985 Billie was as wild as a hyeanna all day!

Thursday, January 17, 1985 Bill got his new glasses

Cloudy, sun and very cold. We are having some awful cold weather. It has been cold now for weeks. We are supposed to have snow tonight. Betty, Carmen and Kim called, they went to look for a house. They got my groceries today. I went down to see Betty’s changes, she is making in the room. I cooked a chicken dinner. Worked on my puzzle.

Friday, January 18, 1985 8 below, mostly sunny

Very cold. We only had a dusting of snow. Well the sun finally came out and that made it nice and a dite warmer during the day. As soon as the sun went in it dropped down but it wasn’t as bad as it had been. I changed the beds and washed today. Billie over to the doctor in Fryeburg to have his feet trimmed.

Saturday, January 19, 1985 No water

When I got up this morning it was 10 above, but cloudy and spitting snow. Zack to work, Kim came and got him. Something happened to the pump, no water. The pipe has sprung a leak down in the field. So they had to change over to the outside well. David was here and helped them all day. Billie was as wild as hyena all day. I worked on the puzzle all day.
