The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

September 25 - 28, 1981

Friday, September 25, 1981 SUN

It was clear when we got up this morning then the sun came up. What a pleasing sight after about four days of clouds and very heavy rain. I done up my work, went down to Thena’s, Fern and I. Had a nice time, it was nice and sunny.

Well it was a quite nice day. I got up early. I done the Saturday work. I made cookies, rolls, baked a good pot of beans. I went up to the camp lot with Bill. Zak and Betty was there and Vince was there too. They was doing a lot up to the camp, cleaning it up where Bruce Warren had hauled the house down and where he had hauled the stones and made a mess. It looks nice up there. Billie been cleaning up outside and he and David sawed wood. Walt had to work all day.

Well it is been a fair day, it was quite warm temperatures. It was some sun. About 9 PM it got cloudy and we had a shower. Thunder shower. I done up the work then Bill and I went up to the camp lot for a little while. Bill helped them get the boat out of the water. Then I came home and we got Fern up for the PM and supper. Also Kim came. Also Betty, Walt and Zak. Then Joy and girls and later this evening Dorothea and David called. I washed, made a cake. David hauled the dressing out up to his place.

Monday, September 28, 1981 No School

A very nice day. It was very windy and cold. Bill and Billie worked on the cellar. They got the junk all out from that room. I went to Portland with Betty and kids. Kim had her last checkup at the orthodontist. In late PM we began to clean up the cellar. Finished it after supper. Ready for the wood.
