The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Sunday, March 1, 1970

A very nice mild day. 50 to 60° today. Billie cleaned car up. I wrote names and addresses etc. in my book. Dorothea and family here for supper. Mike.



 Monday, March 2, 1970

A nice day. I washed, hung some things in the house, took the rest down to Betty’s. She dried them in her dryer. In evening Susan and Vince up for supper. After supper Delores and I went to town meeting.



Tuesday, March 3, 1970

A beautiful day. Snow melted. I done up my work. Betty called. Sue upset today. I did my ironing. Kim here all day in p.m., she brought Zak up. Carmen up here later. All here for supper. Betty, Sue and Vince down to Dorothea and up to Joy’s. I took kids home after supper and put them to bed.



Wednesday, March 4, 1970

A beautiful day. I did up my work. Washed my bedspreads. Went down to Betty’s, she and Sue went to Norway. I stayed with the kids. In p.m. Betty took Zak to the doctors. He had an examination. She is to take him to a specialist. Sue went to town with her. I called at Aunt Ava’s in evening. Pat Linscott called Red Cross. Got our Blue Cross insurance back today.
