The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 10 - 13, 1968 New Furniture

Early snow

Sunday, November 10, 1968

Snow today. Billie and Butch went and hauled Lawrence’s cattle home from the pastures. A bad storm. Bill out twice tonight plowing snow, sanding etc. No company today.

Monday, November 11, 1968

I went to town with Fern and Lloyd, did my washing. Bill home today. He fixed up the nail heads on the wood work in the living room.

Tuesday, November 12, 1968 Bill worked late

A very very bad snow and heavy winds. A very bad storm all along the eastern coast. I did some cleaning of the woodwork and other cleaning. Billie came home about 1:30 PM because of the traveling. He and I went down to Thurlow’s Furniture Store and looked at furniture. We picked out some beautiful (blank) and after we came home, called and told him to bring it tomorrow. Betty called, Carmen not very good. Bill worked until late.

Wednesday, November 13, 1968 Furniture Came

A rainy cloudy, snowy and cold day. It cleared in late p.m. Fred Thurlow brought the furniture. We have a new couch, matching chair and a nice leather chair for Bill. We all like it so much and it is very nice. Bill got home about 3:30 AM.
