The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 25 - 28, 1969 Another Blizzard

Tuesday, February 25, 1969 BLIZZARD

Another big blizzard. It began yesterday with a ordinary snow storm. It snowed hard and wind blowed hard all night. Drifts and more drifts. Bill out all night, home for breakfast about 9 AM. Billie got out and went to work. Had to shovel some to get out. No mail today. I’ve been thinking of Betty and children today. Hope they are all right. I done regular work, mended a dress. I got a brief call from Betty.

Wednesday, February 26, 1969 BLIZZARD continued

Continuance of the blizzard and storm. Billie didn’t get to work. I washed those sheets. Been thinking of Betty all day. I called her. She didn’t feel very good, Walt home. Bobby Stanford called. Lloyd home tonight because of the storm.

Thursday, February 27, 1969

Cloudy, snow and blow. I ironed the sheets. Washed, talked on the phone. Delores to the doctors to have a boil taken care of. Billie got to work today. Bubba Clark called and Ilan also for a few minutes. Bobby Stanford called. Lloyd didn’t work. They got plowed out after supper. Got mail today, first time since Monday.

Friday, February 28, 1969

Sunny today. Sun shown today, the first time since Sunday. I have done up regular work. Ironed. Baker got here today. I talked with Betty. This is the first time we have had sun since last Sunday. I did not work at Dorothy’s.
