The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

A very miserable day. Carmen quite sick. We took Carmen to the doctors last night. She was fair during the day but in late p.m. not very good. I baked beans etc.

Sunday, December 29, 1968

Partly cloudy and some snow showers. Bill to work early. We got up about 9 AM, got breakfast, got ready, went to Concord to take Betty and girls home. They all were glad to get home. Walt was glad to see them also. Carmen not good early this morning, as the day wore on she was better. When I talked to Betty after I got home Carmen was sick with asthma again. Betty and Walt had company. Walt’s friend and his wife. Fern went to Concord with us. Bill got home about noon. Gordon, Sal called in evening.

A beautiful day. Today was Bill’s birthday. He got some cards and a card and check of $10 from Jean. I went to town to get him some pills after supper. Billie took me down. I washed today. A big one. Had 100 gallons the furnace oil today. I called at Barb’s in evening.
