The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 25 - 28, 1969 Susan Rager's First Child

Saturday, January 25, 1969 VINCENT THOMAS RAGER

It was cloudy until about 11 AM, then it cleared. Betty and girls got here about 10. I had got dinner for them. Bill home at 11. Betty, kids and I down to Dorothea and Dave’s. We had a good time. Fern up for supper and Dorothea and Jeff. Tonight about 9:30 a call from Ohio. It was Esther. She and Cliff became grandparents at about 11 AM. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rager. They name it Vincent Thomas Rager. How happy Esther is and Billie and Cliff.

Sunday, January 26, 1969

It was cloudy and light snow flurries. We got up about 8:30. Betty looked at the job ads in the paper. Got ready, went over to Aunt Ava’s to call. Ken and Dolores called. Betty came home, we had dinner about one. Betty and the kids got ready and left at about 2 PM for home. They ran into a storm and called Walt. He advised them not to try to come. So they came back to stay until tomorrow morning. Fern, Lloyd called. We had sandwiches for supper. Billie went smelting today.

Monday, January 27, 1969 Very Cold

A nice day. Betty and girls left at about 8:30 – 8:45. Got home at 11 AM. They seem to enjoy their visit. I washed. Very cold hanging the clothes out. The wind blowed too.

Tuesday, January 28, 1969 VERY COLD oil 100 gallons

A nice sunny day. I done up my work. Wrote to Esther. I ironed. Made a apple pie, mended, got my supper prepared to cook. Watched TV in PM. Gordon called a minute.
