The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 26 - 29, 1964



Wednesday, February 26, 1964

A nice day, on the mild side. I went to town then came home. Betty made cookies for Mike. Blanche gone home. Kennard called. In eve Betty and I down to Ferns in evening and made fudge from Mike. Mama about the same. She has had more strengths since Saturday when he gave her the fluids.



Thursday, February 27, 1964

A very nice day except on the cool and windy side. Real March or late February weather. Done up the general work. Blanche gone home for a little while. Betty to town to get the car light fixed. Mama about the same. Kennard and Delores called. Kennie and Dot in evening.



Friday, February 28, 1964

A beautiful day. Today we done up the general work, washed, change Mama’s bed. Fern, Lloyd called and Kennard in evening. Betty off again tonight. Mama the same.



Saturday, February 29, 1964

A nice day. I cooked some. In p.m. Bill and I to town. Kennard, Fern, Lloyd, Aunt Ava, Kennie and Dot called. Betty, Billie got sore throats. Mama a dite better.
