The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 24 - 27, 1989

 

Friday, November 24 1989

 

A nice day. Carmen came and cleaned, also she helped me do some Christmas business etc. She is such a help. Brogan is so cute all the time and smarter than chain lightning. Watched TV soaps in PM. Carmen and Brogan called in evening a little while. She is a devil. Very cute. She went down to Walt’s to stay all night. Carmen Kim out shopping in Lewiston, also getting their hair is done tomorrow.

 

 

 

Saturday, November 25, 1989

 

Clear when we got up but it clouded up and it began to snow at about 10:30. David came at about 11 for coffee. I baked red kidney beans and some rolls. They were good for a change. Carmen and Kim to Lewiston to get their Christmas shopping done also they got their hair done. And done my shopping for me.

 

 

 

Sunday, November 26, 1989

 

A nice day. I didn’t do much. I worked on the Christmas orders etc. Walt up for coffee. Carmen and Brogan here and she wrapped everything. Dorothea came and made a list this evening.

 

 

 

Monday, November 27, 1989

 

Fair. I did a wash, made up blueberry pie, had a good supper. Carmen came. She and Brogan to town, done the shopping. Zack up for breakfast. Carmen, Kim, Brogan up for lunch. Not much going on. Guy came to see about plowing the driveway. Also down to Betty Smith. Jason came and done rest of the things Billie wanted to get done.
