The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Wednesday, December 6, 1989 GEORGE CAME

It was clear in a.m. In PM it got cloudy, snow tonight. Billie and Zack to the doctors this PM. Billie for his test, Zak for his sore throat. A strep throat, very sick. I made a cake this morning. I washed, cleaned up the house. Betty Smith came up about 2:30. She had made all the material for the sandwiches. She made them and was so busy all the time. Carmen and Kim to Portland early. Went to the stores. Then they met at the airport and waited for George. They got home here at about 7:30. We all was glad to see him. He looked so good. We ate and then talked and all left to go home about 9 PM. Brogan sure kept everyone awake and she put on a good time. She was so cute. Betty’s sandwiches are very very good. Zack sick and unable to come.

He brought Brogan a beautiful little two-piece set, red top and plaid skirt. He and Betty up to camp. Carmen and Kim very busy getting ready for the party. They cooked a steak supper at Betty’s and George was there guest. George was here for the PM a little while. Walt took Zack back to the doctor. He was very bad. Billie only 2 dizzy spells today.
