The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Clear and windy. A nice sunny day. Carmen and Brogan came. Carmen cleaned. It looked nice after she got done. Well it seems funny not having George around. We miss him. I didn’t do much. We watched soaps in PM. Carmen cleaned her house. Kim had to work. Didn’t see or hear from Zack all day. Betty and they all went up to Dorothea’s to watch movies tonight. This evening Ronald, his son wife and baby called. They have a very cute baby (red hair). It was Scott, a very nice smart guy.

Cloudy and it began snowing at about 6:30. We got about 8 inches at dark. Still snowing. All I did today was work on the puzzle. Walt up for coffee in late PM. Zack called, he finished the puzzle. No one here today except Walt and Zack. Carmen went and got Brogan, at about 12 they got home. I worry about Zack all the time. I wish he was on a good track. I don’t know what the outcome will be. It breaks my heart. I love him.

Another stormy day. I didn’t do much. I made a beef stew. Very good, also some cupcakes and frosted them. We watch soaps in PM. Carmen dropped in for a minute. Carmen called late or about 9:30. Brogan is sick with the flu. I hope she will be better tomorrow.
