The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Cloudy and rainy. I went down to Betty’s and helped her out. Bill worked on the floor in the living room. She is having it fixed up. Billie busy all day.

Wednesday, November 9, 1977

 

Cloudy and showers all day. I made two pies, cinnamon rolls, done regular work and went with Fern and Billie to see Lloyd. He is okay. It has been a bad day.

 

 

 

Thursday, November 10, 1977 three eggs

 

Cloudy and raining in a.m. It cleared some. I did some wash. Susan took Delores and me to town today. I called at Betty’s in PM. We looked over the Christmas books. We are beginning to get three eggs a day.

 

 

 

Friday, November 11, 1977

 

Kind of fair, some cloudy but there was a little breeze. I did a dite of washing, also I did a lot of cooking, rolls, pies, baked beans for the New Hope supper. Kim here today. Zak gone down to Fern’s. Bill worked on Saltman’s tools and boat. Billie put winches in tie up. No school today, it is Armistice Day.

 

 

 

Saturday, November 12, 1977

 

A beautiful day, first nice day for over a week. I’ve been very busy. Dorothea called, she fixed Delores’s hair. I was down to Betty’s a little while. They have their supper, New Hope Farm. Did well. Billie gone with Lawrence. Bill helped Walt. Kim over to Dawn’s. Zak down to Fern’s.
