The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

December 15 - 18, 1977

Thursday, December 15, 1977

Kind of a nasty day to begin with but it cleared off. Susan took Delores and I to town, done shopping. I was down to Betty’s in PM. We have had some awful miserable weather, snow, cold and rain. We got our Christmas tree in tonight. Betty and kids came and decorated it.

It has been quite a nice day. I changed beds, washed the bedding, it dried good. I got it in and ironed after supper. Down to Betty’s a while. Mrs. Parker called to see her. Billie home early, he and Carmen went to Norway to do Billie’s shopping.

A beautiful day, clear but on the windy side. I made rolls, a cake, baked beans. Billie and I to Norway. Fern over with Phyllis Pike. Lloyd still better. Billie done a lot of odds and end jobs, got eight eggs. The shelter people worked at the lot today. Too cold to melt the ice.

Fair part of the day. I did a small wash and kitchen curtains. Got Sears package ready to go back. I ironed curtains and put back. I mended. Billie gone with Wes after cattle. Bill didn’t do anything.
