The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 25 -28, 1977

Friday, November 25, 1977

 

It was fair in a.m., it clouded up in PM. I did a wash and went with Betty and kids to Naples and NE Horse Supply. I got my clothes in when I got home. Some dried good. Lawrence Boynton had a heart attack today, he is in the hospital.

 

 

 

Saturday, November 26, 1977

 

A cloudy, rainy, snowy and very miserable day. I done a big ironing at Betty’s. I changed the beds. I done regular work. Dorothea and David called also Susan and her kids called. Bill didn’t do a thing. Billie to Norway in a.m., down to Lloyd Trueworthy’s in PM. Kim over to Susan’s to babysit tonight till late or into the morning. Dawn is having a party, Susan, Betty and Walt went too. Lawrence holding his own.

Sunday, November 27, 1977

 

It was sunny when I got up so I did a wash. I washed windows and it has been a beautiful day. Not tonight it has clouded up as the weather forecasters said it would. Bill hasn’t done anything. Bill been in and out. Cow is a dite better. Lawrence is stable.

 

 

 

Monday, November 28, 1977

 

It has snowed and rained about all day. It has been very cold too. I done my ironing early, got rest of my orders ready and got them off. I went to town with Betty in early PM. Bill has some more repair work to do for Saltman, he brought some things today. Billie been gone most of the day. Betty did away with a bunch of cats today. They are not hungry or cold anymore. Lawrence has got to take it easy from now on.
