The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Saturday, January 21, 1978

 

It has been cloudy and snow flurries all day. Bill did some plowing, Billie shoveled. I done my regular work. Zak watched TV cartoons all forenoon. In PM he went over to Vince’s and came back here for supper than Carmen came up and got him. Kimmy called in PM.

 

 

 

Sunday, January 22, 1978

 

A beautiful day. I done my regular work and some washing. Carmen and Betty called. Billie down to Fern’s. This has been the most beautiful day, sunny and 30° temps and more.

Monday, January 23, 1978

 

Another beautiful day. I did some more wash and the things all dried very good. I did ironing, down to Betty’s for a little while. I had a baked ham supper which was very good. I been busy all day as usual.

 

 

 

Tuesday, January 24, 1978

 

This is been a very nice day, quite sunny. I did a wash and they dried very well. I did ironing. I cooked a roast for supper, made two chocolate puddings and molasses cookies.

 

 

 

Wednesday, January 25, 1978

 

Raining today. I did refrigerator and cleaned stove. Done regular work. I like the Bissell carpet sweeper. I done some figuring at the desk. Bill home all day.
