The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 13 - 16, 1977

Sunday, November 13, 1977 Snow

 

Cloudy rain and snow flurries. Saw the first snowflakes this morning. Well I done my regular work, went down to Fern’s with Betty to get ZAK. Billie with Lawrence again today. Bill helped Walt again, also did yesterday. Zak been here today.

 

 

 

Monday, November 14, 1977 Permanent

 

I got a permanent at Barbara McDaniels today. It has been a very nice sunny day but very cold. Bill worked at Walt’s. I didn’t do much in PM. In evening I went up to Dawn’s to stay with Kimmy while Betty and Dawn and Susan went to a meeting. Kimmy was sick with that sore throat.

 

 

 

Tuesday, November 15, 1977

 

It was cloudy most all day, but I put some clothes out. They dried quite well. I also went down to Betty’s and helped to get her supper to going. I made her a soup and us. Kimmy didn’t go to school, she was sick. Bill finished the floor at Betty’s. Betty and Dawn started the painting in the living room. Fern and Susan over to see Lloyd. He is okay. Billie looking for a job.

 

 

 

Wednesday, November 16, 1977 quite a nice day

 

I worked at Betty’s all day. I cleaned Zak’s room. I cleaned up the kitchen. Bill and Billie home all day. Kimmy still home and don’t feel very good. Dawn and Betty finished painting living room. Got some papering done.
