The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 9 - 12, 1973


Friday, February 9, 1973

A nice day, quite cool. I went down to Betty’s in p.m. In a.m. I done up my regular work, washed windows, ironed and quite a few odds and end jobs. In p.m. Betty and I went down to Raymond shopping.



Saturday, February 10, 1973

A very nice day, on the cool side. I done up my regular work. Kim up here for all day and stayed till after supper. She had a good time. I washed. Bill took us to town.



Sunday, February 11, 1973 Windy and clear

A nice sunny day. I done up my work. It was cold and windy. I got caught up on my reading etc. Bill worked on Jeff’s box all day. Billie went with Lawrence. Didn’t get home till late.



Monday, February 12, 1973

Cloudy and light snow. Bill, Betty and I and Zak went down to Dorothea’s. Bill took the box down that he made for Jeff’s cars. Jeff was very pleased with it. We looked at Dorothea’s negatives and she looked at Betty’s. Billie sick and didn’t work this morning.
