The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 5 - 8, 1973

Monday, February 5, 1973 Carmen C Horton 10 years

It was a beautiful day. Up early and off to Portland. Betty, Zak and me. Did a dite of shopping. Came home, washed a few things and put on to the line. Had Colonel Sanders fried chicken supper. Had Carmen up.

Tuesday, February 6, 1973 very cold, six below

Clear and sunny. I got up, got my wash done early. I did a big wash. A very nice day. Betty and Zak up here, we worked on the snaps. I got my clothes in, they dried fairly good. I went over to Esther’s this morning and helped her to get a few things done in the garage.

Wednesday, February 7, 1973 cloudy

No snow or rain, it cleared away and was a nice day. I done my regular work, got ready, went to town. Got Bill’s medicine. I paid the bills. I came home, did a big ironing. Watched programs. Made a pie today.

Thursday, February 8, 1973

Cloudy day. Betty, Esther, Zak and I over to Denmark to help Susan get her house straightened out and ready for her furniture. We had a nice time. Got home in good season. In evening went down to Fern’s while Billie and Lloyd got haircuts.
