The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Tuesday, October 12, 1965 CARMEN TO HOSPITAL

A very rainy day. Carmen very sick with asthma. Dr. Richards had her rushed right to the hospital. Mike got here in time to take her in. Betty and I down to see her tonight, not very good. Billie to Sandwich New Hampshire fair all day not knowing about Carmen.

Wednesday, October 13, 1965 VERY SERIOUS CONDITION

A nice day. Carmen still very sick and on the danger list in the hospital. Mike came back today but he or Betty couldn’t see her. We’re about at our wits end, no good news at all. We was so upset until late in evening Carmen took a turn for the BETTER. I hope nothing ever happens like this again. I got my hair cut and set today, an improvement.

Thursday, October 14, 1965

CARMEN much BETTER on this beautiful fall day. Betty, Mike and I down to the hospital to see her. She is so home sick. Dr. Richards carried her out in the corridor to quiet her. I washed today. Sent letter to Susan. Es called tonight.
