The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 20 - 23, 1965



Saturday, November 20, 1965

A nice day. I done up the work. Betty over to Auburn to see Mike. Tried to sell the car, no luck. Fern up for supper and evening. Betty gone all day and all evening.



Sunday, November 21, 1965

A very cloudy, stormy day. Lloyd sick. Got to go to the hospital for x-rays. Kennie and Dot called. Billie gone to work tonight at Dialectic for Lloyd. Bill lame. Kennie lame. Got my letters written.



Monday, November 22, 1965

A nice fair day. I did my wash. Got it done kind of early. Betty worked today from Mrs. Hansen. Mike’s trial came off today.



Tuesday, November 23, 1965

A cloudy day. Kind of storming. I washed all the floors, cleaned up all the house. Got my clothes in, churned, to town. Made my graham nut bread. Busy all day. Betty down town and down to Ferns. In evening Bill and I called to see Lloyd. Carmen went too. Kennard and Delores there too. Delores up today. Bill still lame. Billie still at Dialectic. TooMaine came home.
