The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 8 - 11, 1965 Carmen to specialist in Boston - Allergic to cats

Monday, November 8, 1965

Cloudy and rainy today. Glad to see the rain. Betty and I took the wash down town and did it. Did many other errands, came home, got rest of the work done. Made plans and preparations to go to Boston tomorrow. Mike was arrested yesterday on theft of bullets. I don’t know what else he will be doing. It is a very hard blow to take, after all, he is a member of this family. Billie finished hauling the hen dressing today.

Tuesday, November 9, 1965 TO BOSTON CARMEN

A beautiful day. We got up early, got ready. Betty, Carmen and I took off for Boston, went to Portland to the Greyhound bus terminal in Bill’s car. Parked it, took bus to Boston, left at 9:15 got there at 11:50. Outside on those busy streets, what a hustle, bustle and nice pretty buildings. Some not so beautiful. We got a taxi to Kenmore Square to Dr. Brown. He took some tests on Carmen. She has got to go back December 1.
