The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 22 - 25, 1965

Tuesday, June 22, 1965

A very nice hot day again. I finished my upstairs. Betty and Mike slept all day. They were up at supper and all evening. Joy and children called. A man from the Writer’s School called to see Betty. Mike mowed lawns and hauled more  dirt up to the trailer. Billie mowed grass by the fence. Bill painted.

Wednesday, June 23, 1965 Hot

I worked upstairs and did some cleaning downstairs, churned and cooked. Betty and Mike slept all day. We had a bad thunder shower tonight. A very hot day.

Thursday, June 24, 1965 LIGHTS

A nice day, not so hot. I finished up at Seaver’s cottage. Betty and Norma and Sue called today. They got Betty and Mike’s lights connected up today. They had power for first time tonight. Fern came up.

Friday, June 25, 1965

I didn’t do much done today. I had so much to do. Up to the trailer. Joy and girls here. Rosalie and kids here. Mike worked at Linscott’s. Billie started his vacation tonight. Betty and I to town in evening. Fern went with us.
