The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

June 10 - 13, 1965 New Home Arrives



Thursday, June 10, 1965

Mike worked on the lot of theirs all most all day. Betty took Carmen to the doctors. Also had herself checked. Carmen is okay. I cleaned up my house.

Says Sept but I think this is shortly after the trailer arrived. No steps or skirting yet.



Friday, June 11, 1965 LICENSE, TRAILER

Today at about 9 AM Betty, Mike and Carmen’s trailer came. It is a beautiful home. A beautiful location. Marguerite Clark, Bubba Clark, Fern, Lloyd, Delores, Minnie, Rosalie and children, Bill, Billie, Aunt Ava, Uncle Lewis and Kennard are the callers the first day. Also Kristie. Mike took me to town tonight. Mike got license, took his test today.



Saturday, June 12, 1965

A beautiful day. I done my Saturday work. Bill and Mike hauled rocks and filled in the ditch to septic tank. Had Gordon’s truck. Betty did quite a lot of moving. Betty punk today. Joy and children came early this morning to Bob’s. Called here in a.m. and at Betty’s.



Sunday, June 13, 1965

A rainy day. An awful shower. Rained so hard all day. It is what we needed. Didn’t do much. Betty moved a few things into the trailer. Kennie, Dot called and Fern and Lloyd. Didn’t get up till 10 AM.
