The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 14 - 16, 1957 Another Baby



 
Thursday, February 14, 1957 Linda Dianne born at 5 PM

I cooked. Mama mended a puff today. We got a very cute picture from Esther and Cliff, a picture of Billie. Some Valentines came today. Betty to choir rehearsal today. Carlton and Phyllis had a second girl today Linda Dianne.



Friday, February 15, 1957

A nice day. Bill worked on Betty’s cage. I cleaned up the house all over today. Billie worked for Dennis today. Kay up here tonight after school. They went up to Hebron tonight with the Methodist youth group to go swimming. Had a good time. Betty stayed up to Terri’s all night. Valentines and letter from Dorothea today.

Saturday, February 16, 1957

Fair in a.m. not very cold. I did little cooking. Cleaned up the house some. Billie worked for Dennis in a.m. In p.m. he took me to town. Bill home at noon. He worked on Betty’s cage. Wyvern and  family called in late p.m. Betty came home from Terri’s. Terri came with her.
