The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

April 12- 15, 1957

Friday, April 12, 1957

I finished my housecleaning today. Cleaned the downstairs bathroom, hall, cellarway and other hall. Went to town and paid bills, got my check today. School closed today for a week vacation. No letter from Dorothea. A cold windy day. I fixed curtains and put them up. Paid Dr. Godute today.

Saturday, April 13, 1957

A cold day. I cooked, cleaned up the house. Bill and Billie both worked. In evening Bill and I went to town. Billie went smelting with Raymond. Aunt Linnie better today. No mail today.

Sunday, April 14, 1957

A good day except terribly cold and windy. Some snow flurries. Verna, Nola and Jeff called. Raymond called. Fern, Lloyd, Uncle Os came up in p.m. and brought Mama home. Bill and Billie didn’t do much today, too cold. Bill fixed chair arms in sitting room.

Monday, April 15, 1957

I washed it in a.m. Cleaned shed chamber and cleaned up the house in p.m. Also cooked some in evening. I ironed. A nice day cold.
