The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

November 22 - 25, 1992

Sunday, November 22, 1992

Well a quite nice day, on the mild side. Very warm today. I wrote to Es after I got the regular work done. Jason came today. They didn’t do much as everything is about all done for the fall. Carlton and Brud called at Betty’s this morning or late in early p.m. Also called to say goodbye. Last night Brud and Verna had a lot of guests. Kathy, Mark and children, Linda, Nona, Carlton and Billie and Jane. It was sure crowded. They expected Billie and Jane to go home so Carlton and Linda went to a motel and stayed.

A rainy miserable day. Carmen and I went to Windham and done rest of the shopping. Carlton, Linda left for home to California this morning. Also Brud and Verna went home. Got home at about 12:30. Watched programs. Betty came and got the supper. I made a pudding.

Wednesday, November 25, 1992 Snow, No School

Cloudy and raining again. Miserable weather all the time. I done the regular work. Carmen and kids came. Carmen flew around, made four pies, lemon sponge, custard, two date filled ones. They came out good. She sure is smart when it comes to things like cooking. She also got the supper. Very good. Arnold came out and ate too. Brogan ate a big supper then she went down to Betty’s and stayed all night. No snow to amount to anything.
