The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

Nice and clear when we got us up this morning. It was some cloudy, not bad no storm. US troops on their way to Somalia. Carmen came and got the checks to take to the bank etc. She left Cameron here while she was gone. He is a very cute child. Very good. Betty away to get her hair done. Dorothea came and got the supper. Carmen and children went up to New Hampshire tonight to shop for their Christmas party December 12. Watched TV soaps in p.m. No more till Monday.

Quite clear when we got up this morning. It clouded up, some snow flurries. Wind blowed hard tonight. Dorothea came, did the cleaning. It looks so nice. Changed the beds. Done the whole bit. Made a chocolate pie, very good. We had a puffy omelette for supper, very good. Carmen and Arnold and Bro went down in the woods to look for a tree. No luck. So she went to town and got one.

A nice sunny day, warm during the middle part of the day. I wrote to Esther. Betty came up with the Christmas tree. It is a perfect tree. Carmen and Cameron called. Brogan down helping them to get their tree at her grandparents house. She loves those kinds of things.

A quite cold day. I did the washing. I got Esther’s letter off. Carmen came up and brought Cameron. She had a few things to do downtown. Kim called which she very rarely does, she works so much.
