The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

January 12 - 14, 1993 Cameron to the Hospital

Tuesday, January 12, 1993

A quite nice sunny day, it began to cloud up in p.m. Betty came about mid-forenoon to clean. All of a sudden Carmen came and it was startling news. She had taking Cameron to the hospital. He had a very bad night. He was sick and cried all night so Carmen took him to the hospital. They gave him antibiotics. Also couldn’t get any blood. He cried and cried. It was awful. It is called cellulitis which is unusual for a small child. After he got the antibiotics he began to feel relieved. Awful tired. It was awful. Betty and Walt here for supper. She had a good one. We worked on the puzzle some. I did the ironing today.

Well the snow storm has hit. It started in at about nine. Carmen, Arnold and Cameron came. She went to town to do the shopping. Arnold stayed here with us while she was downtown. He got a lot done on the puzzle. Cameron is a lot better, had a good night’s sleep. He is much better. They went down to see Walt. Well Carmen had a big splash tonight. A very good turkey supper and all the fixings. Betty, Walt, Tom, Kim, Brogan and Cameron. A very good time. Kim, Carmen and Betty did the work.

There is a January 14, 1993 Tom plowed, Arnold shoveled

A beautiful sunny day after the first snowstorm of the new year 1993 or it was the first snowstorm of the winter season. We had about 7 to 8 inches of snow. Tom came and plowed the driveway first time for this year. Also Arnold came and did the shoveling. He did a good job. Carmen came and got the supper. Turkey sandwiches and gravy. I had the baby for a while today while Carmen had a customer.
