The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

February 27 - March 1, 1993

Saturday, February 27, 1993 a beautiful day all day first time in a long time, TEETH

Cameron got 2 today. Cameron has teeth finally. This morning Carmen and Brogan discovered two teeth had appeared in Cameron’s mouth. I’m so glad because he has had such a hard time getting them through. I hope he won’t suffer so much with the rest of them. Well this morning David came for coffee. I did regular work. Also washed the bedding etc. Also I took my bath. Dorothea came, she worked and washed all day. Got the lunches and a good supper. She did everything. Dorothea got a call that Judy McAllister died about 11 o’clock today. Zak called tonight.

Sunday, February 28, 1993

Well it has been a quite nice day, on the mostly sunny side. Not too cold. There has been kind of a haze at times. Walt up for coffee this morning. I wrote my letters, looked at magazines in p.m. Betty Smith called, her usual phone call. Carmen worked a double shift last night. I took care of the kids. Well today is the last day of the month.

Monday, March 1, 1993

At last the first day of March. In like a lamb. I done up my work or morning chores. I made out the bills and they are all ready to go. Betty came in the p.m. She got the supper. Carmen came with Cameron. He stayed here a while she had the late appointment.
