The blog posts below are taken from my grandmother's diaries. Althea Green Smith Crook was lovingly referred to as Nanny to her immediate family ~ thus her diaries are called Nanny's Diaries.

Nanny wrote in her diaries when she remembered to - mostly in the evening. There will be some years in which she didn't keep diaries and there will also be some days/weeks in her yearly diaries in which she skipped or forgot to write in them. For the most part, these are her words - written as she wrote them. There will be typos, forgotten punctuation, and other grammatical errors - but I am rewriting these as my Nanny originally wrote them.

As with all old handwriting, there are some entries that I can't quite make out - and these entries will be followed with a (?) to signify that this may or may not be correct or I can't figure out what she is trying to write.

Thank you Nanny for leaving us 50 years worth of memories! We miss you!

At Betty’s today. Betty Smith also. We made three batches of fudge, pumpkin bread, popped the molasses corn for the Christmas. Had good luck. All came out good. It was nice being down there all day (HOME). I love that place, every inch of it inside and out. Came home. Betty got the supper. Very good one. Betty and Betty did the work. I just did getting the ingredients ready.

A partly cloudy day and we got the snow. Some sun but very cold and very windy. It was so cold all day. Dorothea and Betty Smith came, they worked hard preparing sandwiches and desserts for tonight. They got done and went home at about 1 o’clock. We got to watch most of the p.m. programs. Betty came at about 2 PM. and got the house cleaned. I took a bath, ate supper. Betty came and we went to Betty Smith’s to see her open her gifts. Had a good time. They came up here and had our gifts and refreshments. It was very late when they all left. Billie and I got so much from them. All were very nice and useful gifts.
